Taking music concepts into painting

Where do I start?

There's always this odd thrill of writing the first post in a blog that previously just had a tab but nothing in it. I love it and hate it at the same time.

Frankly?

I'm so used to expressing my thoughts on YouTube that writing a blog post feels too 2005!

And yet, here we go...

So, as some of you know, I come from a musical background and I love to work in album format as opposed to releasing just singles. An album to me is like a book of stories or like a whole novel with its overarching exposition, developments, and climax.

In painting, I want to lean into creating series of artworks unified either by theme or format. As of now, you can already see the Cozy Littles emerging as a series on this website. I have ambitious plans and a vision for several others.

Right now, I'm gessoing a larger 35" x 35" canvas which will start my Sumerian Series, namely, an episode from the Epic of Gilgamesh. Since Ancient Sumer, Akkad, and Babylon are a topic I've been passionate about for many years, I know I won't stop there and will expand into a series after the first painting is done.

The Meditteranean Series (most likely, not one but several) will revolve around the French Riviera, the city of Nice, the Cote D'Azur, and the Mediterranean Sea itself. And I can't wait to deep-dive into that!

Several Still Life series will be done. I have a few interesting ideas within this genre.

It goes without saying that there will be many more paintings of Kentucky's nature and wildlife.

I also intend to paint portraits of notable people and characters grouped into small series. It should be an absolute pleasure to do!

I can't help but really want to paint several series of paintings dedicated to the Twin Peaks universe as it is, in all honesty, one of my favorite TV shows.

The Sunset City album which I will be embarking on later this year will have a series of paintings to accompany it.

I will also have series of works dedicated to various cities. Despite moving from faraway Moscow, Russia, to rural Kentucky, I never lost my love and appreciation for them despite their noisiness, clutter, and unstable nature. I love the big city and might one day return to one. Meanwhile, I will paint them from afar!

Sometimes, a series will be created in its entirety for a gallery because it will have to comply with certain requirements. (But that's ok! In the event of that happening, you will be able to purchase this art with the gallery.) In such cases, paintings will be unframed. Non-gallery works available only on my website will have custom handcrafted frames.

What else is there going to be?

Commissions!

Of course, there are going to be commissions. But about that, later, in a separate post.

For now, please explore my gallery, enjoy the art, and if you have something to tell me, say it!

I always appreciate your feedback.

But that's it for now... So, ciao until next time.
